Apparently according to A.net forum, Ryanair plans to start trans-atlantic flights for as little as £12 which doesn't give me much confidence in the carrier. The rumour is they want to utilise either of A350 and B787 aircraft. If this does happen its not going to be until the start of the next decade but it could well finish some of the big carriers including the American giants of Delta, Northwest and United. I wonder if JetBlue has similiar plans because between the two of them they could wipe out proper carriers with a proper service. I think the open skies agreement should have had a clause about low fare flying across the pond.

I have been from a very young age interested in all aspects of Civil Aviation and have worked in the industry for years. We have always had competition and in some cases we have not liked what other Airlines have done BUT I have never felt the way I feel about any of these Airlines as I do about Ryanair. I just hate them. It is only those who work within the industry who know the damage they have done to the industry. Now please understand I do not hate them because they are a so called low cost carrier, (which they are now not) (I beleive there is a place in our industry for such) but I hate them for the way they have come to dominate the European market by giving the impression that carriers such as BA and BMI and the other major European airlines have been ripping people off for years. This is not true for I remember a time when the aircraft flown by the main airlines were not anywhere as fuel efficient as they are today and fuel was actually dearer so they had to charge a higher fare and they also provided a first class in flight service which is not in the vocabulary of Ryanair. Ryanair themselvs tried to serve various places in Europe with One/Elevens but could not match Aer Lingus on price who were flying 737s at the time. So there is a history with Ryanair that is not one that I would like to have attatched to me. As far as Trans Atlantic services, well this could lead to disaster on the Atlantic as many people who want to save a bob or two will change to Ryan and many airlines will have to cut back services. I think you are right SJR it will see the loss of a number of US carriers on the Atlantic and do further damage to an industry that I love.

They have already obliterated the European market. Yes the concept is all well and good but Ryanair goes about it in totally the wrong way. God help us if they start to destroy the transatlantic routes because when they have done that they will most likely carry on and destroy the remaining parts of the world with the rubbish service and concept. I really hope that they will not be allowed to do this, but unfortunately it is a case of people looking for something for nothing, which as you say has ruined the industry for many well known and respected carriers. Just look at the way GOL has destroyed Varig, although they did it in a slightly better fashion to that of Ryanair who are slowly gutting the European carriers.

I cant imagine Ryanair doing trans-atlantic flights. I dont see how it could be profitable, i mean £12 a seat is nothing, so they would probably add tons of charges and taxes to get them into the money making zone, where then there would be no point in flying with Ryanair as they would be just the same price as any other trans-atlantic airline.
