Helios Airways
Flights
London Luton to Larnaca B737-300 5B-DBY Larnaca to Birmingham B737-800 5B-DBI
Luton to Larnaca
Arriving early for my flight i progressed through the checkin and security areas as soon as possible so that i could relax watching the aircraft go past the windows. The flight was delayed by nearly half and hour although this didnt bother me too much since at the time i had never been to Luton and used the extra time watching the aircraft go by. When the aircraft did arrive i took up my seat near the rear of the aircraft and waited for the flight. The seat was rather comfy, however there was limited legroom.
Upon takeoff we proceded to Larnaca with food coming in the form of a small meal. Although this wasn't the best meal i ever had it was reasonable and i was hungry and soon finished the meal. The entertainment systems were rather dated on this aircraft and no inflight movie was provided for the 4 1/2 hour flight. Arriving at Larnaca the pilot slammed the aircraft down so hard that some people screamed and a few people complained upon arrival to the FA's that the landing had hurt their backs.
Arriving at the the terminal i recieved my bag quite quickly which was rather lucky since most people had to wait for ages to get their's.
Larnaca to Birmingham
No problems within the terminals our the aircraft. Although i was expecting another standard flight i was pleasently surprised to find that the aircraft was in good shape. There was more leg room, a better meal and a brilliant entertainment system. This was one of those systems that showed you the flight route and where you were which took up a lot of the time on the quiet morning flight.
All in all i would say the airline wasn't brilliant but it probably wasn't the worst airline i have travelled with. I would rate them as five stars out of ten because they could have done so much more for the passengers on the flight. Anyways regardless of this it doesnt make much difference since the airline became Alpha Jet in late 2005, early 2006 and soon went out of business. This was partly due to the crash of 5B-DBY only 6 months after my flight on the aircraft.
